 Bird Race Rules and Regulations

Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area International Bird Race

  1. The Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area International Bird Race 2011 activity is limited to the Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation area and connecting roads, the extent of which includes Dasyueshan forest road kilometer 0~50 at Syueshan sacred trees (including hiking areas, the Forest Trail, and Chuanhsingshan forest road to kilometer 0.8 (originally forest road 210).

    Times when the ticket control booth will be open for this activity are 08:00~22:00 on Friday April 26 and 05:00~17:00 on Saturday April 27.
    ※Please showing your
    recognition card during the competition with no restrictions.
    ※By showing your
     vehicle permit, you can enter and leave the control area during the competition with no restrictions.
  2. The birdwatching route is to be planned by each team, but cannot go beyond the set boundaries for this activity. Each team can use one vehicle and must make completely independent observations from other teams. No two teams can have the same birdwatching route, and those that disobey this will be disqualified.

  3. Participating teams must complete the entire activity (including the opening and closing ceremonies), and the forms must be turned in at the agreed upon time to complete the competition.

  4. In the back of the activity manual is a blank original on which you can record all of your bird sightings and a summary form. When making observations, use the blank form, and when finished, completely fill out the summary form. Observation summary form must be turned into the staff before 10:00 am on April 27, 2019.

    NOTE: Teams that turn their material in after the deadline will be disqualified.

  5. Please use the following codes to designate the range where observations were made:

    A:from kilometer 0 to 15 (Datong Police Station);

    B:from kilometer 15 (Datong Police Station) to 35 (ticket station to enter Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area);

    C:from kilometer 35 (ticket station to enter Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area) to 50 (Syueshan Sacred Trees & Tienchih (Heavenly Lake))

  6. Recorded bird species and sums will be judged according to the bird list of the Chinese Wild Bird Federation published in 2012. In the field, you should also record any exotic species. If there are any controversies over a bird species, it will be judged based on the explanation from the leader of the team that recorded it. Whether to accept the record will be discussed and a decision will be made; no dissent or objections will be allowed.
  7. For each bird, at least three members of a team must see or hear it at the same time in order to record it, and sincere and honest principles are expected (for a bird only heard, you can record that you heard it, not count it as seen).

    NOTE: If you observe behavior that indicates that the bird's ecology has changed, then please reliably record it.

  8. If an unusual bird is heard (one not normally seen in the Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area), one should complement the record with a photograph or audio recording, and present the evidence. But please use a remote recording method, and do not disturb the bird's activities during the recording (the use of food as bait and recordings of bird calls to entice birds is strictly prohibited; anyone found in violation will be disqualified).

  9. Participating teams should be aware of their own personal safety at all times. Forest roads that are off limits cannot be used. Where the road condition is bad or there is no way to enter an area, then do not force your way in.

  10. For nighttime observations, please carry a flashlight, be careful of your safety, and be aware of snakes. Prevent using lights for long periods of time to illuminate an organism, and do not disturb wild animals' activities.
